Rather worryingly the latest crime figures in the UK show that attacks against the person in public areas are on the rise and robbery, muggings and personal assault are just some of the incidents that add to the list of statistics. We want you to stay safe at Xtra Security and this is our safety checklist to help protect you when hit the street, be wary and keep out of trouble.
Be careful using ATMs: Always check around you for signs of suspicious activity when you use an ATM, be wary of people standing too close or strangers that try to engage you in conversation when you are using a cash point.
Put money away quickly: Don’t stand there in the street counting out your money, if you visit a cash point for example, put the notes away in your purse or your wallet as fast as you can, waft it around and it’ll be gone before you have time to react.
Be street savvy with your phone: Like walking and talking on your phone? How do you know what’s going on around you? Avoid distractions caused by talking on mobiles or listening to music, especially in areas that are renowned for street crime.
Stay safe in numbers: Try to visit areas with friends, stick to bustling areas and avoid walking in remote locations on your own, especially at night.
Look after mates: If you are on a night out and one of your pals has had a little too much to drink, make sure they get home safe, don’t let them wander off on their own. Ask them to do the same for you in the future and stick to a code of conduct.
Use a personal alarm tracker: Let people know where you are with a GPS/GSM tracker.
Take self-defence classes: Learn how to protect yourself from street robberies. Fight back and go to self-defence lessons, avoid being a soft target!
